His Love Endures Forever

Aloha Kakou,

Last month when people were getting ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day, I had a phone call from the wife of a friend who used to go to Hope Chapel Waikiki. She said that Gus was in the hospital, so I went to visit him to see how he was doing, and to pray for him.

He was in the intensive care unit. When I got to his room he was lying on the bed smiling. He didn’t expect to see me; he was smiling and seemed a bit cheerful lying on the hospital bed. As we talked and caught up on lost time I asked him what was happening with him and he said, “They’re going to take my leg off, Brother D.”

Wow, what a shocker! But the real shocker was when he said, “this leg wasn’t good anyway and I can’t wait to see what the Good Lord going to do with the new leg that the doctors are going to give me”. You see, he was going to get a prosthetic leg.

Brother Gus is going to be 90 years young and he was leaning on the LORD instead of his circumstances. He told me that he was a Christian for over 80 years and that Jesus is his friend.

I just pray that when I face troubled times, sickness and ailments, that I too will smile and know that Jesus is my friend and see what the Good LORD is going to do.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.

For the LORD is good and His love endures forever. (Psalm 100:4)

Na Pomaika’i (blessings),
Pastor Dennis Sallas

A Camping We Will Go

It was the second year Hope Chapel Waikiki went camping. This year it was at Camp Mokuleia on the North Shore. It was my kind of camping: beautiful view from your room, comfy bed, private bathroom and all your meals made for you. How blessed were we! The Lord’s beauty surrounded us as we sat by the fireside and took in the blanket of stars as far as the eyes could see. It was a reminder of how much I take for granted, in His awe-inspiring beauty that we have right before us. With all His majestic wonders how can I not trust in all His promises? God is forever coloring our world with His handiwork.

I feel blessed and ashamed all at the same time for not thanking Him every day for His gifts. To be able to share time together and have wonderful fellowship, worship and spend time in His word as an ohana made it a precious experience. I asked others to share what blessed them.

In Him all things consist. (Colossians 1:17)

Special thanks to Keith and Scott for heading up the camp.

Also special thanks to Maryann for watching my beloved Hoku.

Reyn:

The Lord blessed us with beautiful weather and wonderful fellowship at the Church Camp. It was great to get away from it all and spend some time on the North Shore with my Church ohana. George blessed us with a Sunday teaching and playing the guitar to worship songs.

Nancy:

I sometimes forget the beauty that surrounds me here in Hawaii. I am not talking only of this beautiful island but the beauty in getting to share Christian fellowship. It was a wonderful weekend.

The room accommodations in the lodge were spacious and it was great having all the meals prepared for us – no washing dishes.

Lehua:

TOO MARVELOUS for words can only slightly describe the weekend at Camp Mokuleia. The weather, accommodations, view, food and fellowship were more than anyone could have expected or asked for. The campfire nightly was just great. God’s peace, love and assurance covered all of us. The Holy Spirit was in the lodge and was felt by everyone. Coming as one big happy ohana. God’s word came alive through us as we gathered together to honor and give Him glory. May our heavenly father open the windows of heaven and make it possible for the entire congregation to part take in this gathering next year. Everyone deserves to be spoiled like we were this weekend. Those not there truly missed out on a big blessing. I know I was blessed. THANK YOU Pastor Dennis, Keith & Scott for putting it all together. Aloha Ke Akua, Lehua

Christina:

This past weekend a group of us went on a retreat to Camp Mokuleia. I cannot tell you enough how much fun and relaxing it was. The accommodations, location, and food were fantastic! Getting to spend some quality time with church members outside church, and having the bonfires at night with singing and s’mores was a blast. I truly look forward to every year doing this again and again.

I only wish it were for a few more nights because it went too fast. Mahalo to everyone for making it happen.
