Pray For Your Neighbors
by Pastor Dennis Sallas

Aloha Kakou,

On May 31, 2009, we prayed as a church for our community, our zip code, our leaders in government, other nations, the world, and of course the United States of America. We prayed that we would turn from our wicked ways, and confess our sins to our almighty and awesome God.

After the 10:30 AM service, we had the Meet Your Neighbors cookout where we met people in our community. We sent out flyers to our neighbors, inviting them to enjoy a day of leisure, food, games, prizes, and music performed by “The Waikiki Sunset Serenaders. It was a very beautiful and productive day with our volunteers helping and serving and our neighbor. I believe Meet Your Neighbors was a success.

Jesus said, “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” and to “love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matt. 22:37-39) Let’s start following Jesus words and start loving our Almighty and awesome GOD and loving our neighbors. Let’s start today and don’t forget to pray. Some things can be difficult without prayer.

Get To Know Your Neighbors
by Donna Sallas

Our first attempt to meet our neighbors went according to God’s design. We all thought there would be at least 200 people. We sent out hundreds of invitations, and when one mentions “Free Food” people usually come running, but that wasn’t the case. We had a good number of people (roughly 145) but not nearly as many as we thought would come.

At first, I was a little disappointed. Then I started to take in what was really going on. The neighbors that did come were sitting with members of our church in a more intimate setting. They were really able to get to know one another.

Fellowship and planting seeds was definitely occurring. We had beautiful Hawaiian music, hula, laughing, and lots of food. New friends were made, and it was a wonderful way to get to know your neighbor. That’s God’s way of sending us what we need instead of what we want. He wanted us not to just meet our neighbors but get to know them.
